Schaffhausen's restaurant scene runs from serious French-Swiss fine dining to casual old-town taverns. The local Rhine perch (Egli) is worth ordering when available. Züri-Geschnetzeltes — sliced veal in cream sauce with rösti — is on most menus and varies in quality; the better versions use actual veal and proper wine. At the Rhine Falls, the mill restaurants are touristy but the setting makes up for it.
