The Sternen Grill, on the corner of Theaterstrasse at Bellevue, is the most famous Wurst stand in Zurich. Locals queue up at all hours for the unbeatable combination of grilled St. Galler Bratwurst with a small Bürli roll, a smear of mustard and (optionally) a glass of beer or a coffee, served at standing counters by the door.
The grill has been on this corner since 1963 — Old Zurich; the sausages are made to its own recipe by a single regional supplier; the white-tiled bar has the time-warp look of an unselfconsciously functional Swiss diner. Cheaper, faster, and arguably more characteristically Zurich than the smart restaurants nearby. Open until late evening; open Sundays. There is a small sit-down section if the standing counter is full.
