The oldest surviving madrasa in Crimea, founded in 1500 by Khan Mengli Geray on the eastern edge of Bahchisaray. The building is small — a rectangular structure with cells for students around a central courtyard — and surprisingly modest for its historical importance: this was the principal centre of Crimean Tatar Islamic learning for over four centuries.
The chain over the main door, the inscribed marble lintels, and the small mosque attached are the highlights. Now part of the wider Bahchisaray museum complex; check at the Khan's Palace ticket office for opening hours. Easily combined with a visit to the Eski-Yurt mausolea group on the same site.
