Note: Crimea, including Sevastopol, has been under Russian military occupation since 2014. The Ukrainian government and most of the international community consider it to be Ukrainian territory, and most Western governments advise against travel there. Access is currently possible only via Russia (by air or the Kerch Bridge from mainland Russia), not from mainland Ukraine. Check current travel advisories before considering a visit.
Before 2014, Sevastopol was accessible by train from Kyiv (about 15 hours) and Kharkiv, and by ferry from Istanbul. Simferopol, the Crimean capital about 80 km to the north, was the main transport hub for the peninsula.
