The ruins of Cembalo Fortress stand above Balaklava Bay, where Genoese traders built a fortified stronghold in the Middle Ages. The surviving towers and walls are fragmentary, but the hill gives a strong sense of the harbour's strategic position and has broad views over the Black Sea coast. The climb is part history stop, part viewpoint.
