Cape Meganom

Cape Meganom is the dramatic semi-arid headland about 15 kilometres east of Sudak, forming the eastern boundary of Sudak Bay. The landscape is unlike anywhere else on the Crimean coast — bare limestone ridges, sparse vegetation, and a wild coastline of small pebble coves and sheer cliffs. The lack of shade and development gives the cape an ancient, isolated quality.

A rough track leads out to the lighthouse at the cape's tip, passing several secluded coves with good swimming in calm conditions. The area is popular with kite surfers when the wind is up. Getting there requires a car or a long walk; there is no public transport. Take water, sun protection, and something to eat — there are no facilities.

A story
Cape Meganom is the easternmost point of Crimea's southern coast and one of the sunniest places in Ukraine, with over 2,400 hours of sunshine per year. The semi-arid landscape of stone and sparse shrubs has an almost steppe-like character entirely different from the lush coast to the west.
