Sudak's main attraction is its medieval fortress, but the town is also a pleasant coastal resort with good beaches and access to some of the most dramatic cliff scenery on the Crimean coast. The surrounding countryside produces Crimea's best wines, and the village of Novy Svet a few kilometres west is one of the most beautiful spots on the peninsula.
Note that Crimea has been under Russian occupation since 2014, recognised by the vast majority of countries as Ukrainian territory. Travel to the region carries significant political and logistical complications; check current conditions carefully before planning a visit.
