Potocki Palace

The seat of the Potocki family who founded Stanisławów in 1662 — a long, single-storey, two-winged baroque palace north of the Market Square. The Potockis lost it in the partitions of Poland; under the Habsburgs it served as a barracks, then as a military hospital under the Russians, the Austrians, the Soviets and the independent Ukrainian army in turn.

It's still partly used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces medical service, so much of the building is not open to the public, but the courtyard and the surrounding park are accessible and worth a stroll. Restoration work has been on-and-off for two decades; a small museum in one wing covers the city's founding.
