Hutsulshchyna Restaurant

A landmark wooden building above the Probiy gorge, built in 1965 in a heavily stylised Hutsul vernacular — log walls, steep shingled roof, carved gables and beams. It opened as a restaurant for high-ranking Soviet officials and tourists, with a cast-iron chandelier of forged sheep horns, ceiling beams hung with horse harness, and views from the dining room straight down the rapids of the Prut.

It still operates as a restaurant. The food is solid Hutsul home cooking — banosh (cornmeal porridge with sheep cheese), trout from the Prut, mushroom soups, smoked meats. Worth a meal even if you only stop briefly in Yaremche; the building itself is a kind of monument.
