Transfiguration Cathedral

Large Byzantine-Russian cathedral that anchors Zhytomyr's historic church landscape.

Transfiguration Cathedral is one of Zhytomyr's most prominent landmarks, a tall 19th-century church designed in a Byzantine-Russian style. Its scale and position make it one of the easiest buildings to orient yourself by in the centre.

The interior uses local stone, including granite and labradorite, and the building is worth seeing as much for its massing as for its decoration. It is a strong first stop before walking toward the older church and museum quarter.
