North Hertfordshire Museum

Opened in 2019 in the former town hall, the North Hertfordshire Museum tells the story of north Hertfordshire from the prehistoric to the present, with the strongest sections covering the Stotfold Hoard (a Roman coin hoard found locally), Hitchin's wool and lavender trades, and the local Quaker community that included the Lucas, Seebohm and Ransom families.

Compact (you can do it thoroughly in an hour), well lit, and consistently good for families. The café and the local-history library are on the ground floor. Free; closed Sundays and Mondays.
