When to Go

Lowestoft's coastal position gives it slightly less rain than inland Suffolk, and it ranks among the sunniest places in the UK. That said, the North Sea can be brutal in winter, and the seafront gets cold and grey from October through March. Summer (June to August) is the best time to visit — the beach is at its most appealing, Pleasurewood Hills is in full swing, and the days are long.

The Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival, held in late July, draws large crowds and involves military and civilian aircraft performing over the seafront. If you are not interested in the spectacle, this is a weekend to avoid — accommodation books up weeks in advance and the town gets very busy.
