Thetford has a scattering of traditional pubs in the town centre, some dating back several centuries. The Black Horse on King Street is one of the more characterful, a timber-framed building that has been a pub since at least the eighteenth century. Most pubs serve food at lunchtime and are quieter in the evenings. The town centre closes early by any urban standard — this is a market town, not a nightlife destination.
Coffee and light lunches are available at several cafés around the market place and along the main shopping streets.
