Thetford sits on the Breckland Line between Cambridge and Norwich, and has a railway station on the eastern edge of town. Direct trains run from Cambridge (around 40 minutes) and from Norwich (around 35 minutes), with services every hour or two. This is the most convenient way to arrive without a car, and the station is a short walk from the town centre.
By road, the A11 dual carriageway connects Thetford to Norwich in the northeast and to the M11 motorway corridor in the southwest, making it straightforward to reach from London (around two hours) or Cambridge (around 45 minutes). The A134 connects the town south to Bury St Edmunds. There is free parking in the town centre.
The nearest airports are Norwich (50 km northeast) and Stansted (90 km south), though neither is particularly convenient — most visitors from further afield come by train via Cambridge.
