Peddars Way

Long-distance Roman-road trail beginning near Thetford and crossing Norfolk.

Peddars Way begins near Knettishall Heath, just outside Thetford, and runs north across Norfolk on the line of an old Roman road. The full route continues for roughly 46 miles to Holme-next-the-Sea, where it joins the Norfolk Coast Path, but the southern stretches make a satisfying day out from Thetford by bike or on foot.

The appeal is not a single viewpoint. It is the long, straight rhythm of the track: heathland, pine plantations, quiet lanes, flint churches, and open fields that make East Anglia feel wider than it looks on a map. For travellers based in Thetford, it is one of the best ways to get beyond the town without needing a car.
