A modern theatre built on the lakeshore at the southern edge of town, opened in 1999 as the permanent home of a company that had been touring around the Lakes by lorry since the 1950s. The big auditorium runs a summer rep season — usually a Shakespeare, a modern classic, and a new play running in repertoire — and the small Studio takes the experimental work.
Pre-show, the windows look straight out across Derwentwater toward Catbells. The Theatre Café is open to non-ticket-holders and is one of the better places for lunch in town on a wet day.
