The town itself is a half-day at most: a wander through the slate-grey streets, a turn around Moot Hall on the market square, and a visit to one of the small museums. But Keswick is really a base, not a destination, and what fills the days here is the country around it — the lake to the south, the fells to every side, and the Borrowdale road snaking deeper into the mountains.
A first day might be the launch around Derwentwater, getting off at Hawes End for the climb up Catbells. A second is Skiddaw or Latrigg from the edge of town. A third is the drive south through Borrowdale to Honister and back over the Newlands Pass. Wet days are for the museums, the Theatre by the Lake, and the pubs.
