Souter Lighthouse

Souter Lighthouse was completed in 1871 and was the first lighthouse designed to use alternating-current electric power. It closed in 1988 without being automated, so the keeper's living arrangements and working rooms remain unusually complete.

Climb the 76 steps to the light for views along the coast. The site pairs well with a walk on The Leas, the open clifftop grassland around the lighthouse.
