Bolton Market

Bolton Market is one of the largest covered market halls in the north of England, occupying a substantial Victorian building in the town centre that has been trading continuously for well over a century. The indoor hall contains several hundred stalls selling everything from fruit and vegetables to fabric, tools, electronics, and clothing, with a particular concentration of independent food traders that makes it a useful stopping point at any time of day.

The outdoor market, which operates on set days around the covered hall, extends the range further and draws traders from across the region. The market's reputation for quality Lancashire produce — pies, black pudding, tripe, and cheese — is genuine and long-established. Several stalls are run by families who have held the same pitch for three or four generations, and the atmosphere on a busy Saturday morning is that of a place that has been doing this for a long time and sees no reason to change.
