Prestolee Aqueduct is a solid piece of industrial Bolton: a late-18th-century stone aqueduct built to carry the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal over the River Irwell. It is preserved as a listed structure and remains one of the canal's key surviving works.
This is a sight for walkers, canal people, and anyone interested in how the industrial northwest was stitched together. Do not expect a grand visitor centre; the pleasure is in finding the engineering still in place, with water, towpath, and valley making the old transport system legible.
