When to Go

Burnley has a typical northwest England climate: mild, wet, and often grey. Summer (June–August) brings the best weather for exploring the Pennine moorland around the town, including the walk up to the Singing Ringing Tree. The Burnley Festival in August includes outdoor concerts and events.

Football season (August to May) is worth considering if a Turf Moor match is a draw — home games bring the town centre to life. The Christmas market in the town centre is popular locally.

The town's indoor attractions — Towneley Hall, Burnley Mechanics — are good wet-weather options and worth visiting regardless of season.
