MediaCityUK, on the waterfront at Salford Quays, is the BBC's northern headquarters and home to ITV Studios, Dock10 studios, and a growing cluster of media and technology companies. It is a purpose-built media campus opened in 2011, and the BBC's move here was one of the largest relocations in British broadcasting history.
Tours of the BBC studios are available and often include a look at the sets for programmes recorded here — Coronation Street, Match of the Day, and Blue Peter have all been produced on the Quays. The waterfront piazza is a pleasant place to walk, and Salford Quays as a whole — combining MediaCityUK with the Imperial War Museum North and The Lowry — makes for a rewarding half-day out. It is a 15-minute tram ride from the city centre on the Eccles line.
