Salford Cathedral, formally the Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist, is a light neo-Gothic Catholic cathedral just west of central Manchester. Completed in the 19th century, it reflects the growth of the city's Irish Catholic community and is worth a short detour for its tall nave and calm interior.
