Portsmouth's food scene has stepped up considerably in the last fifteen years, helped by a large student population and the redevelopment of Gunwharf. The strongest restaurant clusters are Albert Road in Southsea (independents, ethnic, casual), Gunwharf Quays (chains, waterfront), and Old Portsmouth (pubs and a few seafood places). Fish and chips on Southsea seafront and at the Camber Dock are a Portsmouth tradition.
