Portsmouth is small enough to walk most of the centre — the dockyard, Gunwharf, and Old Portsmouth are all within ten minutes of each other on foot. Southsea is a longer walk (40 minutes from the dockyard along the seafront) but pleasant in good weather.
Buses. First Bus and Stagecoach run a dense network across Portsea Island; the most useful for visitors are the 700 (Park & Ride from the M27), and the 23/23A linking the dockyard with Southsea and the eastern districts.
Trains. Portsmouth Harbour and Portsmouth & Southsea stations are connected to Fratton, Hilsea, and Cosham within the city — useful for travel beyond walking distance.
Bike. Portsea Island is mostly flat and full of cycle lanes. Beryl Bikes runs a public bike-hire scheme with dockless cycles dotted around the city.
