Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

HMS Victory, Mary Rose, and centuries of naval history

The centrepiece of any visit to Portsmouth and one of the best maritime attractions in the country. A single ticket covers HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship at Trafalgar in 1805 — you can stand on the spot where he fell in the cockpit; the extraordinary Mary Rose Museum, built around the recovered timbers of Henry VIII's Tudor warship, sunk in 1545 and raised from the Solent mud in 1982; HMS Warrior (1860), the world's first iron-hulled warship; and the Royal Naval Museum. Allow a full day.
