Eton College, founded by Henry VI in 1440, is one of the oldest and most famous schools in the world — the boarding school for boys aged 13–18 that has educated a startling number of British prime ministers, princes, and writers. The school occupies a string of medieval and Tudor buildings along the High Street of Eton village, across Windsor Bridge from Windsor itself.
The college is not generally open to the public, but the historic Eton Chapel (built 1449), the cloisters, and the boys' museums can be visited on guided tours run during school holidays. Eton High Street is open all year — a single long street of antiquarian booksellers, traditional tailors, and pubs, with boys in tailcoats and pinstripes streaming past at the start and end of the school day.
