Windsor is itself a day trip from London for many visitors, but if you're staying overnight, London is 50 minutes away by train and works perfectly the other way round. Oxford, an hour west, is the natural pairing for anyone wanting a second helping of English heritage. The river towns of Henley and Marlow, with their own pubs and walks along the Thames, are within easy driving distance.
