Legoland Windsor, about 4 kilometres south-west of the town centre, is the biggest of the Legoland theme parks worldwide and a major family attraction in southern England. It opened in 1996 on the site of the former Windsor Safari Park and has expanded steadily; the rides are gentle, the queues sometimes long, and almost everything is built out of, or themed around, Lego bricks.
The headline attraction is the Miniland, a multi-acre model of European cities — Trafalgar Square, the Sydney Opera House, a working model of Las Vegas — all made from millions of Lego bricks. Buy tickets in advance for any cost saving; the park is closed in winter.
