Theatre Royal Windsor

The Theatre Royal on Thames Street is one of the great English provincial theatres — an Edwardian playhouse seating about 600 people, built in 1910 and producing plays year-round to audiences drawn both from Windsor and from London. The repertoire is mainstream — drawing-room comedies, classic plays, a Christmas pantomime each year — but the production values are high and the casts are often well-known.

The building has a fine red-and-gold auditorium and a long association with West End try-out productions. Looking for a play in Windsor on an off day is a respectable backup plan.
