Carwardines

Bristol coffee institution roasting beans since 1866

Bristol's oldest surviving coffee house, Carwardine's has been roasting beans since 1866 and is as much a part of the city as the Clifton Suspension Bridge. The Regent Street branch in Clifton is a neighbourhood staple — slightly old-fashioned in the best possible way, with uniformed staff and the smell of freshly roasted coffee drifting out onto the pavement. If you want to understand why Bristolians take their coffee seriously, this is a good place to start.
