Getting There

Lynton and Lynmouth are not easy to reach without a car, which is part of why they remain unhurried. The nearest mainline train station is Barnstaple, roughly 19 miles (30 km) to the southwest. From Barnstaple, Stagecoach Devon runs bus services along the coast, though the timetable is limited and the journey winds through several villages.

By car, the A39 runs along the coast from Porlock to the east and from Combe Martin to the west. The descent into Lynmouth from Countisbury Hill on the A39 east of the village is one of England's steeper public roads — 1-in-4 gradient, narrow, and with hairpin bends. In wet weather, take it slowly. Parking is available near the harbour in Lynmouth and in a car park on the edge of Lynton.

There is no direct train or coach connection from London or Bristol. Driving is the practical option for most visitors.
