Lynton and Lynmouth reward slow exploration. The cliff railway alone is worth the trip, but the real appeal is the landscape immediately around both villages: gorges, coastal headlands, and moorland where feral goats roam among rock formations that look borrowed from a wilder country. Most of the best things here involve walking — even modest distances reveal something extraordinary.
