Church of St Michael

The mediaeval Church of St Michael sits high above the town on the slopes of North Hill, a steep walk up through the old village of Higher Town. The current building is largely 15th century, in pale local sandstone, with a tall west tower that doubled as a navigation mark for sailors crossing the Bristol Channel.

Inside there is a fine carved wagon roof, a Jacobean pulpit, and an unusually complete set of Victorian stained glass. The churchyard is worth a wander for the views over the rooftops and out to the sea.
