Newquay is a good base for the north Cornish coast and inland.
Padstow (40 minutes north) for harbour-front seafood and Rick Stein restaurants. St Ives (an hour southwest) for the Tate, the Barbara Hepworth Museum and one of the loveliest small towns in England. Tintagel (an hour and ten minutes north) for the cliff-top ruins of Arthurian myth. The Eden Project (45 minutes southeast) is the famous botanical biodome built into a former china clay pit. The Lost Gardens of Heligan are nearby. Bodmin Moor — wide, empty, dotted with prehistoric remains — starts a half-hour drive inland.
