Eating Out

Newquay is a holiday town and most of its eating reflects that — fish and chips, pasties, burgers, and a long lineup of cheerful seafront pubs. There is also a small but real foodie scene, especially out at Watergate Bay.

The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay does excellent burgers and fish and chips with sand outside the door. Senor Dick's is a long-standing Mexican on the headland with a sea view. The Stable on Fore Street is the best of the pizza chains. The Boathouse at the harbour serves crab, lobster and other catch landed just below. Cornish pasties are everywhere; The Cornish Bakery and Warrens are the chains, but smaller independents on Bank Street often do better.

For an upmarket evening, Lewinnick Lodge on the Pentire headland combines a cliff-edge view with good modern British cooking. Booking advised in summer.
