Towan Beach is Newquay's main town beach — a sheltered cove of fine sand backed by the harbour and the centre, with rock pools at low tide and a tiny island-house perched on its own stack just offshore. It is the family beach: shallow, safe, and within five minutes' walk of fish and chips.
The famous Towan Island, a single house on a rocky stack accessed by a vertiginous suspension bridge, has been a private residence since the early 20th century. You cannot visit, but the view from the cliff is one of Newquay's defining images.
