The Sloop Inn on the harbour is the essential stop — the oldest pub in town, right on the water. For coffee and cake the numerous lanes of Downlong have several good independent cafes. The beach cafes at Porthminster and Porthmeor are both worth sitting at for an hour even if you are not hungry.
