Chesil Beach

Eighteen-mile shingle bank; pebbles grade by size along its length

A remarkable eighteen-mile shingle bank stretching from Portland to West Bay. The pebbles are naturally graded by size, getting larger towards Portland — local fishermen used to know exactly where they were in fog just by the size of the stones underfoot. Part of the Jurassic Coast UNESCO World Heritage Site.
