Herefordshire is cider country and Ledbury takes the drinking of it seriously. Almost every pub will pour you a flight of three or four local ciders alongside the standard beer; the bar of The Feathers Hotel is the most atmospheric place to do it. The smaller Prince of Wales on Church Lane is a proper old-fashioned drinkers' pub with timber-framed walls leaning inwards.
The town also has a strong cafe culture, helped by the literary visitors. The Mousetrap Cheese Shop on Church Lane combines a counter and a small lunch room. Three Counties Coffee on the High Street roasts its own beans. The Market Theatre cafe is the quirky option for a coffee with cake among amateur dramatic society posters.
For evening drinks with a view, head out to the foot of the Malvern Hills — the Wellington Inn at Wellington Heath or the Royal Oak at Ledbury Hill both have good gardens and a long late-summer evening.
