The Manor House near Stone Cross is a rare survival of medieval domestic architecture in the industrial West Midlands. Parts of the structure date from the 13th century, with significant rebuilding in the 14th and 15th centuries. The building retains sections of its original moat, a great hall range, and timber-framed elements that pre-date the town's industrial transformation by several hundred years.
The Manor House is now a pub — which means it is freely accessible in a way that many historic buildings are not. The exterior, including the moated section, is visible from the car park. Inside, the old hall and some of the medieval stonework are incorporated into the pub interior. It is not a polished heritage experience, but the building's age and the contrast with its surroundings make it an interesting stop.
