Helmsley Walled Garden sits just below the castle, which gives it one of the town's prettiest settings. The garden began in the eighteenth century and has been restored as a calm, productive space of borders, glasshouses, fruit trees, and places to sit.
It is a good counterweight to the castle ruins: softer, slower, and best visited when the planting is in full swing from spring through early autumn.
