Castle Hill

Iron Age hilltop with Victoria Tower and Pennine views

The hill rising sharply to the south of town has been occupied since the Iron Age, and the views from the top make it obvious why. The Victoria Tower, built in 1898-99 to mark the 60th year of Queen Victoria's reign, stands at the summit and can be seen from much of West Yorkshire. On a clear day the panorama stretches across Huddersfield and deep into the Pennines.
