Holy Trinity Church stands at the top of the High Street, directly opposite the castle gatehouse, and together the two buildings frame the ancient market street below. The church was founded in the twelfth century and rebuilt several times; the current building is largely fifteenth century, with Victorian restoration work inside. Lady Anne Clifford is buried here — her tomb is in the north transept.
The church is the main parish church for Skipton and is open to visitors during the day. The interior is typically Yorkshire: solid, dark stone, box pews, and a sense that this has been a functional place of worship for a very long time. The Clifford Chapel and Lady Anne's tomb are worth seeking out. The churchyard extends behind the building and has some legible seventeenth and eighteenth-century gravestones.
