Skipton's main draw is the combination of its medieval castle — one of the best-preserved in England — and its setting as a working market town at the edge of the Yorkshire Dales. The High Street market runs four days a week, the Leeds-Liverpool Canal runs through the town centre, and the Dales are immediately accessible from either end of the high street. The Craven Museum in the town hall provides the local history background; the castle provides the atmosphere.
