Todmorden's market is one of the more genuine survivors of the traditional northern market town. The indoor Public Market Hall and the open-air market to its front operate on Wednesday and Saturday, filling the area around the town hall with stalls selling produce, clothing, household goods, and local food. It has resisted the homogenisation that has overtaken many similar markets and still has the character of a working market serving local people.
The outdoor market in particular has a lively feel. The town is known for its independent food culture, partly due to the Incredible Edible project that began here in 2008 and encouraged community food growing across the town — you will find growers and producers selling at the market who are part of that movement.
