Todmorden Unitarian Church

The Unitarian Church on Honey Hole Road is one of the finest Nonconformist buildings in the north of England. Built in 1869 to designs by John Gibson — the same architect responsible for the town hall — the church is a Gothic Revival building of considerable ambition, with a broach spire and richly decorated interior. The Fielden family, who owned the town's principal mill and were the most powerful family in Todmorden for much of the 19th century, were Unitarians and largely paid for both buildings.

The church is Grade I listed and still used for worship. The interior woodwork and stained glass are of high quality, and the building rewards a closer look than the modest exterior first suggests. Check local listings for opening times, as access is typically possible on certain days.
