The Duke of York

The Duke of York in the Cathedral Quarter is the most atmospheric pub in Belfast, a Victorian-era bar in a narrow entry (alleyway) that is festooned wall to ceiling with old advertising signs, bottles, newspaper clippings, and general vintage debris. The effect is cluttered, warm, and genuinely characterful. The Guinness is among the best in the city.

The pub's terrace overflows into the alley on summer evenings, turning the entry into an outdoor room. The bar serves food at lunchtimes and has live music most weekends. This is the quintessential Cathedral Quarter experience: a full pint of stout, a cobblestone entry, and the craic.
