For a small island, Barra eats unexpectedly well. Local seafood — Barra cockles, langoustines, scallops, hand-dived lobster — appears on most menus, and several pubs and small restaurants in Castlebay do creditable evening meals. The airport café at Tràigh Mhòr is a quirky lunch stop with proper food.
The Co-op supermarket in Castlebay covers self-catering needs. Almost nothing is open on Sundays, so plan ahead.
