Beaches

About 25km south-west of Durness lies Sandwood Bay, arguably the most beautiful unspoilt beach in Britain. Backed by large sand dunes and separated from the sea by only a narrow strip of sand, the bay also has a gorgeous inland loch. There is no road to Sandwood Bay — it is a 4-mile walk from the nearest village, Blairmore, which only adds to the sense of discovery when you arrive. Allow at least an hour to walk back before dark.
